A new fashion event
During the first weekend of October, you can experience fashion in Antwerp thanks to Antwerp Fashion Weekend, a brand-new fashion event. Come to Antwerp for a weekend of red carpets and catwalks, a fashion conference, models on bikes and skateboards, DJs, parties and even a real fashion mayor.
The festival kicks off on Friday 30 September with a conference about retail in Antwerp and how this sector has taken a creative approach to its competitors, namely online stores and pop-up stores. Various pubs and restaurants are offering ‘fashionable’ menus and a number of hotels have even developed special package deals.
Fashion for a wide audience
It is impossible to ignore the diversity and variety of Antwerp fashion and clothes during the Antwerp Fashion Weekend. A wide range of events allows fashion addicts to have the time of their life but the public will also appreciate the diversity of Antwerp’s clothing stores and streets. A group of traders in well-known shopping streets have joined forces, becoming one large stage to show the collections of the shops and these young designers. Where possible, real catwalks will run the length of Antwerp’s streets.
Red carpets will line the pavements on other streets and you will literally walk among the catwalk shows. Fashion on Wheels, meanwhile, features models showing clothes while moving around on a bike or a skateboards. DJs will provide the right background music and everyone is welcome to attend the afterparty at Ikon or Red & Blue on Saturday and Sunday (the shops will be open).
Fashion mayor for one weekend
Antwerp’s mayor has already expressed his support for this fashion festival. He may be temporarily replaced by a fashion mayor or his outfit for the weekend may be designed by up-and-coming designers.
So do visit Antwerp during the Antwerp Fashion Weekend and take a front row seat for all kinds of surprising shopping events.
