ANTWERP IN 24HR

The Central Station, chosen by Newsweek as the fourth most beautiful train station in the world, is the perfect point of departure for a day in Antwerp. From the station, you walk through the Diamond
district and can visit Aquatopia or the Zoo. For those who really want to get a whiff of this multicultural district, a visit to the Jewish neighbourhood or Chinatown is indispensable.

Then you stroll in the direction of Meir to look at the impressive Festival Hall. A little further on, the Wapper, where the Rubens House is situated is surely worth a visit. Walk to the Theaterplein and stand still for a moment to gaze upon the magnificent porch.

Walk along the Schuttershofstraat and the Leopoldstraat via the Bourla Theatre to take a breather in the Botanical Garden. In the Wilde Zee you cannot only find great restaurants to eat lunch, but also shops where you can buy Antwerp hands (Antwerpse handjes) and chocolate.

A visit to the MoMu | Fashion Museum, followed by a bit of shopping in the surrounding fashion district with stores by designers such as Dries Van Noten, Stephan Schneider, Anna Heylenand Ra will give a perfect impression of Antwerp fashion.

The Cathedral of Our Lady cannot be left out. Afterwards, enjoy a Bolleke (a traditional Belgian beer from Brewery De Koninck) on the Grote Markt. An amble along the Scheldt quays up to the Eilandje (Little Island) with its impressive MAS | Museum aan de Stroom or a boat tour on the Scheldt will give you a beautiful view on the river that exerts so much influence on Antwerp. Round off your day with a cava aperitif and a delicious dinner on the trendy Eilandje.

ANTWERP IN 48HR

A stroll from the Groenplaats to the trendy Zuid district up to the Palace of Justice is a great start to a second day in Antwerp. Have breakfast in one of the many restaurants at the Zuid and afterwards pay a visit to one of the museums such as the M HKA (Museum of Contemporary Art Antwerp) or one of the many art galleries.

Then take tram 4, which takes you past the stately town houses of the nineteenthcentury city ring to Zurenborg and saunter around in the district to discover its wonderful architecture.

Tram 11 will then take you back to the city centre up to the Korte Nieuwstraat. Several steps further the Hendrik Conscienceplein and the surrounding comic walls shine a light on another aspect of the city.

The Vlaeykensgang, a medieval cobbled alleyway, is definitely worth a stop. The pedestrian tunnel underneath the river Scheldt, situated at the Sint-Jansvliet, brings you to Antwerp’s left bank (Linkeroever). Here a breathtaking view on the Antwerp roadstead awaits you.

Finish your stay in Antwerp with mussels and Belgian fries in a restaurant on the left bank, surrounded by the Antwerp natives and with a view on the lights of the harbour…and the Scheldt!
