DIVA, a unique experience related to the enchanting world of diamonds, jewellery and goldsmithing, will open in the historic centre of Antwerp at the end of 2017.<br />
DIVA is the Italian word for star, and it just so happens that the largest diamond in the world is a star. It's called Lucy, after the song by the legendary British group The Beatles: Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.
Diamonds are a real star for Antwerp too. Like a diva shines on the silver screen, the splendour of diamonds shines on Antwerp.
DIVA is a truly interactive diamond in the city. It's so much more than a museum. Visitors can admire the most beautiful diamonds and learn about Antwerp's history as the world centre of the diamond trade. But they won't discover that part of DIVA before first experiencing the diamond world. Visitors will be taken on an interactive voyage where they will discover every aspect of goldsmithing, jewellery-making and diamonds.
DIVA is an attraction with substance, with a story. To tell that story, parts of the former Diamond Museum and Silver Museum are on display. The exhibition is rounded out with items on loan.
The experience centre is hypermodern yet located in the middle of the historic heart of Antwerp. This neighbourhood has housed goldsmiths, jewellers and diamond merchants since the sixteenth century. Antwerp has been known as the most important diamond city in the world since its Golden Age. Traders and explorers brought precious gems and metals into Europe via the Scheldt River.
You'll have to wait a bit longer before discovering DIVA, but in the meantime you can discover some fantastic pieces in the Diamond and Silver Pavilions next to the MAS.
