Música Temprana - AMUZ

South American Baroque music for Christmas from the Ecuadorian Ibarra Codex

The Cathedral of Quito, the capital city of Ecuador, was a vibrant hub of musical activity around the year 1700. The excellent music composed there has only recently been rediscovered, and will be performed at this atmospheric Christmas concert.
The programme includes polyphonic villancicos: a genre of folk music that was popular in the 16th and 17th centuries. This popularity was mainly due to the mixture of typical Baroque with traditional Latin American music. Música Temprana will also perform other Christmas music from Ecuador and Peru.
