Joseph Beuys | Greetings from the Eurasian

Antwerp’s contemporary art museum M HKA is hosting an exhibition titled “Greetings from the Eurasian” until 21 January. Joseph Beuys was one of the most influential twentieth-century artists. This is the first major retrospective of Beuys’s work in Belgium since the Eighties.

Performance artist

In the Sixties and Seventies, Joseph Beuys (DE) worked as a performance artist in Antwerp, where he met Belgian artists such as Marcel Broodthaers and Panamarenko.
The exhibition examines the German artist’s significant influence on the Belgian post-war avant-garde through key works such as Eurasienstab (1968), which he created with the Danish composer and artist Henning Christiansen.

A key figure of the post-war avant-garde

Beuys is one of the most influential twentieth-century artists. He succeeded in expanding the scope of art to include politics, society and ecology.
This exhibition is the first of a series of monographic exhibitions by M HKA, focussing on key figures of the post-war avant-garde. In 2018, the museum will organise an exhibition on the work of Marcel Broodthaers.
