Discover the newly refurbished M HKA

Form 28 April 2017, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Antwerp (M HKA) will be showing a free-access permanent basic collection, where you will discover works of the museum’s reference artists, contemporary heroes, historical pioneers and tasters from the museum’s worldwide collection. Due to the renovation, the museum will be partially closed between 6 February and 27 April.

Unique entrance hall will be the M HKA’s beating heart

In addition to the new permanent collection, the look and feel of the museum will change completely. After the make-over, the museum will boast a multilingual reception infrastructure, targeting a broad and diverse audience. This unique hall, with a library / reading room as a first-visit experience, will become the museum’s beating heart.

Temporary and partial closure

Due to the renovation works, the ground, first, second and third floors will be closed from Monday, February 6th to Thursday April 27th. The fourth, fifth and sixth floors will remain open and are freely accessible, as will the M HKAFE and presentations at the INBOX and LODGERS areas.

Festive weekend

As of Thursday 27 April, the museum celebrates its grand reopening weekend. You are welcome as of 8.30 p.m. The reception with a DJ set will kick off at 9 p.m. on the rooftop terrace.

From Friday 28 April until 30 April, you can visit the refurbished M HKA for free. There are plenty of things to see and do. Take a look at the programme.

Grand re-opening on 27 April

The M HKA’s grand re-opening is on Thursday 27 April. From then on, you will be able to to admire a number of works in a permanent set-up on the ground floor. Take time to take in art, ranging from of Panamarenko to Luc Tuymans and from Dan Flavin to Jimmie Durham. This will coincide with the opening of the first temporary collection exhibitions:

The M HKA is developing this innovative project with top designer Axel Vervoordt and Japanese architect Tatsuro Miki, with the support of the Flemish Government. This will be the very first completed project of the ‘Flemish Masters’.
