Running in Antwerp

Antwerp was the European Capital of Sport in 2013; the city owes this title to the large number of inhabitants that participate in sports. Running is definitely one of the most popular sports in Antwerp. Do you feel like putting on your running shoes? Here are a few popular places to go running.

 

Park Spoor Noord: run through the hippest park in the city with steep slopes

The starting point of the circuit is the beginning of the gravel path in front of the hangar, Damplein 27, 2060 Antwerp.
 
A 1 kilometre short loop with distance markers every 100 metres. You can expand this loop to 1400 metres. The extension is only indicated on the start signs.
 

Galgenweel: Antwerp’s skyline can be seen from the running trail in a water sports area

The starting point of the circuit is on the Beatrijslaan at the cycling tunnel, 2050 Antwerp.
 
A lap around the Galgenweel is about 3500 metres; 1700 metres of that is on a soft running trail. Three laps equal about 10 kilometres.
 

Scheldt River quays: along the Scheldt River and in the shadow of the cathedral

About 5 kilometres; it runs the entire length of the Scheldt River quays. This circuit connects to other running circuits.
 

Stadspark (City Park) surprisingly diverse in the busy city centre

At the triangle between Rubenslei, Van Eycklei and Quinten Matsijslei, Antwerp. The starting point of the circuit is on the Rubenslei side of the triangle, 2018 Antwerp.
 
It is a 1400-metre loop with distance markers every 100 metres.
 

Rivierenhof: endless trails in green surroundings

Between the Binnensingel, Turnhoutsebaan, Ruggeveldlaan and E313, 2100 Deurne. The starting point of the circuit is on the Ruggeveldlaan across from Ruggeveld Sports Park.
 
10 kilometres with distance markers every 100 metres for the first 1500 metres then distance markers every 500 metres.
