Room of Wonder I: Axel Vervoordt DIVA

DIVA is proudly presenting its first temporary exhibition: 'Room of Wonder I: Axel Vervoordt DIVA'. Axel Vervoordt an internationally celebrated art dealer and interior architect. The exhibition that he assembled calls for presenting wonder and curiosity for natural and scientific curiosities and exotica together with historical and contemporary art.

Axel Vervoordt

Axel Vervoordt knows the world of working with precious metals exceptionally well, as like no other he creates fantastic combinations. For his room of wonder he dove into DIVA's collection and supplemented this with pieces from his own collection and with loans.

Already since the beginning of the 1980s, during the Biënnale des Antiquaires in Paris, he brought artistic objects together in surprising ways. Working with precious metals was part of his broad interests and expertise even then. Amongst other things, he handled the sale of the Antwerp owl cup, thanks to the King Baudouin Foundation, which today is one of the top pieces within the DIVA collection.

Vervoordt's room of wonder reflects upon the wonderful, rare, precious, exotic and grotesque collections' objects through various periods and cultures.

With works of art from: Anish Kapoor, Pablo Picasso, Alexander Calder, Jan Fabre, Wim Delvoye, Jan II Breughel, Lucas Cranach, El Anatsui, Jef Verheyen, Lucio Fontana, Marina Abramovic, David Huycke, Paul Van Hoeydonck, Octave Landuyt and Niki de Saint Phalle.
